Nothing much in her lab, Ryan. Nalan had briskly taken in the contents of Marian's lab. The pair have visited her lab often but they had never been able to sift through Marian's files with the woman around. And now what with Richard's subtle interest in nuclear power and Marian's information that Sophia was involved with its research, it was more important that Ryan had a chance to look through her files.
It must be in one of her cabinets, Nalan. I doubt she would leave classified information such as nuclear energy casually lying about. She might need a crane to move her, but she isn't stupid.
We can't do anything with them here anyway - Nalan cast a dark look in Morpheusa's direction briefly - we can come back later when he has finished his silliness.
Quote:
"Ryan! Why did you DO that? We were, we were, we just had such a SUPERB chance to talk to those lovely ladies and - "
Ryan smiled defiantly at Richard. 'I didn't want you to lose your challenge with Morpheusa,' he said, eyes glimmering at the white tigress. 'I thought you would want me to remove any temptation that might - '
The door flung open and Dana re-entered the lab.
'Your superb chance returns,' he smirked at Richard and turned to walk to the first-aid box that he had come to know so well in Marian's lab. He was still within earshot but was far enough to let the pair resume their conversation.
You won't believe this, Ryan...
The fox-daemon was sitting beside the large whale and Hanky, observing how the interval in between the large woman's snores were nicely slotted in by Hanky's.
The young scholar opened the first-aid box and saw that it had not been replenished since he was last here. Only a bandaid and a few cottons were in the box.
'Well this isn't going to help,' he said, shutting the box again. He eyed Richard and Dana conversing. 'I'll just go see if there's another around here,' he said, knowing perfectly well that that was the only first-aid box in the lab and walked into the depths of the room, where it was in semi-darkness as the lights were only turned on where they had placed Marian Karpy.
He walked over to the desks lined with paper and shuffled it around, opening cupboards and cabinets as if he was searching for a first-aid box, medicine, aspirin or other remedial substance.
His eyes flashed as a piece of paper stared up at him from his fifth attempt at a drawer. Casually, he took it out and folded into his jacket pocket, without turning around to see whether Richard was watching as he knew that would only create suspicion.
Having found what he was searching for, he continued to shuffle and clang through cabinets to look for medicine. Panadol. That'll do.
Ryan strode casually back towards the light and towards the two people sitting there.
'Here,' he tossed the panadol packet at Richard. 'Nothing else around. Suppose she can take some when she wakes up.' The young scholar crossed his arms and leaned against a wall, looking at the snoring mass on the bench. 'Doesn't look like she needs anything though.'

Richard Mackenzie's POV
Words in italics indicate Richard Mackenzie and Morpheusa communicating telepathically.
"I don't need to win the challenge, Ryan. Morpheusa had already lost the challenge for herself when she requested me to give Marian Karpy CPR. She forfeited our challenge. Good thing too, she knows she can't keep up with not staring at male daemons. Her hormones are all the rage right now."
The white tigress scowled at her human. "It was a matter of life and death and - "
Richard Mackenzie scowled back. "Don't be an idiot. Because of YOU, I have lost out on a bunch of lovely ladies. So shut up and do something right for a change."
The daemon leapt up and began to paw through a large cabinet, standing on her hind legs to pull upon drawers, and using her paws to swipe open papers and documents.
"What in FUCK'S name are you DOING?"
"Looking for some aspirin for Miss Karpy. Which, by the way, is the CORRECT thing to do right now."
The door burst open and Dana made her entrance, grinning. She did not seem to have noticed the mess Morpheusa made, and was more than content to place herself beside the man.
"My name's Dana Karpy if you hadn't noticed, Marian Karpy's actually my aunt, but I don't know why my mother made her my godmother. One of the more stupider things she did. You know how parents are and how they - "
"Actually, I DON'T know how parents are. Mine died you see," he muttered quietly. Morpheusa looked up from her sniffing of the table, distracted before padded quietly towards her human.
"Oh. Oh, I am SO sorry. I didn't know, it was just so tactless of me and - "
"It's alright. You wouldn't have known. I can't miss what I really didn't have right?" He placed a thousand watt smile on his face and nodded. "What's it like being with Miss Karpy? Is she really as ...whaley and unbearable as usual?"
"Heck, yeah. I do remember once, where - "
More seriously though, I think we should ransack this lab for more information on whatever that whale has done on nuclear research.
That is, firstly, a violation of ethics, and secondly, we can't do that while Ryan and Nalan are in here! We have to wait for them to leave.
I don't have that much time. I have a woman to fuck, Morpheusa. DO something!
I am your daemon. Not a magician.
She gazed back at him darkly, before noticing the disappearance of the aforementioned human and his fox daemon. A casual observation around the room placed them further away from her human, out of earshot and looking around the room for a first aid kit.
Or so she thought. Thinking that everything was alright, she lay down on the floor and proceeded to dream.
"That whale. She thinks that I like the crap she does in the lab. So she lets me in sometimes. I tell you, I don't like her, I hate how she explains things to me, but that woman's one smart bitch."
The both of them looked at each other and grinned. This was probably as good a chance as any to ask her for the night off, but something else was more pressing right now. Sneaking another look at Ryan to make sure he was not listening, he continued.
"What exactly does Marian do in the laboratories?"
"She researches on nuclear elements. Pretty amazing, to tell you the truth. I mean, all that energy it can produce is just off the charts. That whale has been making real progress. It's nuclear fission. Or nuclear fusion, and - "
His mind automatically began sieving through the details, picking out terms he needed and ignoring the rest.
"Right, and this nuclear fashion. It is a process of producing ... energy?"
"Not FASHION! Fission! Richard, you're so funny!" She laughed out loud, and a pack of aspirin bounced on his head. His eyes watered, and he nodded.
"Let's just wait for her to - "
Morpheusa's head poked up in alarm as conversation froze.
Marian Karpy's eyes had opened and Hanky was already on the floor staring at his surroundings.
Re: Visit at St Sophia's College « Reply #32 on Sept 18, 2009, 11:10pm »
Ryan looked on at Richard charming Dana with entertained eyes. His arms were still crossed and he had a smile on his face. Too easy. The girl was letting Richard have her too easily. All this and Richard is going to treat her like a pack of used tissues.
The fox was pacing back towards the lighted area of the room, sniffing the air.
Very heavy on chemicals, this room.
This being a lab might have something to do with that.
No doubt.
Ryan opened his mouth to join the conversation but a noise made him jerk his head towards Marian's corner. She was shifting. And Hanky already has his eyes open.
Alarm bells were ringing in his mind. His eyes immediately sweeped the diameter within an arms-reach of the large woman. He had absolutely no idea what mood Marian would wake up with. Happy, annoyed, irritated, murderous. Worse case scenerio, she would wake up, seize a test tube rack and hurl it across the room at the two men, and Dana. However, Ryan noted there were no test tube rack, nor any other potentially free-hanging objects within her reach that could kill them. Apart from the stools.
Apart from the stools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nalan came to the same conclusion simultaneously and the pair rushed to her side, a supposed relieved grin on their faces - though neither would have mind her staying unconscience for a while longer.
'Marian!' Ryan exclaimed, holding out his arms to move the stools to "make room for her to sit up on the bench".
'How are you? We were very very worried. Very.'
He turned his head around. 'Won't we Richard?'
Nalan was staring squarely at Hanky, while Ryan had his head leaning slightly back in anticipation of whatever the large lady was to do.
On her part, Marian sat up slowly and swung her legs over the bench - creating an audible creak to the wooden bench. She rubbed her head, then her arms. 'Ow,' she cried, looking down and seeing a large bruise. 'How..? What happened..?'
'You were in a figh ' - Nalan sent a distress brainwave to Ryan - '...a ffflight of stairs. You were in a flight of stairs a-and you fell down.'
'Oh!' She paused, scrunching her face and trying to remember. 'And you boys...carried me back here?'
'Yes! We did. We did.'
'I - weren't we having dinner and Sal -'
'Sally yes!'
'I remember being angry.'
'She stole your muffin.'
'Is that so? Then what a silly thing to get angry over. Oh the poor thing. I have been told I am terrible when I'm angry. I must treat her to a dinner. Oh and you boys, such fine specimen of men. Very fine indeed. Come come, let me give you a hug. You too Dana. I am very blessed to have you all in my life.'
Ryan hesitated, looking at her perplexed.
Good stuff Ryan. She isn't turning into the Hulk.
He leaned in and she grabbed him forcefully around the back, embracing him into bone-breaking hug.

Richard Mackenzie's POV
Words in italics indicate Richard Mackenzie and Morpheusa communicating telepathically.
An automatic smile crossed his lips again as Richard shot Marian, a look which, he hoped was an easy one. Charm, charisma and looks, he had learnt were usually enough to stop a head on argument.
Morpheusa was far less reassured though. She was prepared to duck at a moment's notice. Her human was always one to be shot at first and shoot back later. He never believed in staying on guard.
"Oh yes, we were very worried. It is extremely lovely to see you so...well." Richard nodded at the whale while shooting Ryan a grin at the same time. His friend's stories were getting better and better. Stealing a muffin? They would have a good laugh over drinks later.
He patted Dana's hand, indirectly telling her to shut up about their previous conversation. "And we were getting very acquainted with your lovely goddaughter. You flatter me too much, Miss Karpy, really you do."
Dana snorted. "There is no need to be so modest Richard. You really DO deserve some flattering. After all your efforts towards...St Sophia's and my dear godmother."
What she meant was his efforts in BEARING with her godmother's overbearing attitude towards life. Richard caught that immediately and winked at the girl.
"It was nothing at all. In fact, I rather enjoyed - "
Morpheusa stared at Marian Karpy for a second time as she pulled Ryan Whitman for a bone crunching hug.
We have to help him before he gets squashed!
Squashed is an understatement. Being made into a hamburger- patty-and-smashed-with-a-spatula is more astute.
"Come now, Miss Karpy. You must be tired. Why don't you just - "
Hands, hands with the strength far beyond what a fat person SHOULD have pulled him close. Not expecting the sudden force, Richard was jerked forward and squashed alongside Ryan.
"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. A fine specimen of gentlemen the both of you are. Dana you really should follow their examples."
"I know Miss Karpy. I know." She tipped off another wink at Richard, moving closer towards him
"Come here, my dear." Without waiting for an invitation, she pulled her goddaughter forwards for a hug.
MORPHEUSA! A LITTLE HELP!
Whatever for? You have always wanted to spend your night with woman. There you have it. Women.
He was about to come up with another snappy retort when his hands brushed against Dana's right breast.
On second thoughts, just leave us here.
The girl reciprocated his touch and leaned in, grinning. Their eyes locked behind the back of Ryan.
And the both of them were just as suddenly thrown back. Richard landed on his daemon, and was miraculously still on his feet, Morpheusa taking the brunt of the force.
She yowled loudly as her back landed on the floor with her tail being stepped on by her human.
GET OFF ME!
Not like I have always wanted to get on you and mount you Morpheusa.
He jumped and released her tail effectively as Marian Karpy screamed at the state of her laboratory.
"WHAT HAPPENED TO MY LAB?" She took a retort stand and hurled it across the room, breaking a window.
Re: Visit at St Sophia's College « Reply #34 on Sept 24, 2009, 12:42pm »
Ryan felt the unmistakable crack of a bone in his spine. Boy, that would hurt for the next few days.
There wouldn't be anything to hurt if she doesn't let go of you soon, Ryan. Nalan herself was putting up with the purrs and head rubbings from the perfumed cat. She tried to relax but she could not stop the fur at the back of her neck standing on end.
Soon the young scholar felt Richard and Dana next to him, entirely missing the exchange between his friend and the goddaughter.
'Marian, if you will just - ' he said, wriggingly his arm to a more comfortable position. Then as unexpected as it had been for the hug, the three was suddenly released. The force of it sent Ryan spinning back unbalanced before he found the soles of his boot stepping on something soft. Soft?
Ryan spun his head around and saw that it was Morpheusa's tail. He jumped off it immediately.
'SO sorry, Morpheusa,' he cried, 'I owe you one. You can step on Nalan's tail.'
Nalan shot him a look of disdain and herself, jumped back from the cat as Hanky issued a growl.
Change of mood?
Ryan looked at Marian in alarm, ducking in time from the flying object and seeing it crash into the window behind.
'Please, Marian,' he said and caught a heavy journal volume in his hands as it came soaring towards him.
'WHAT DID YOU DO? WHY IS IT SO MESSY! YOU KNOW I HATE MESSINESS! HATE!'
'Marian!' Ryan dropped the book as a conical flask whipped past his head.
He looked desperately at Richard and Dana.
'We were looking for - ointments to lessen your bruises!'
'OINTMENTS? TRYING TO BURN ME WITH SULFURIC ACID?'
'No no, look! Panadol! We have Panadol!' Ryan pointed at Richard.
Marian turned her three-headed beast head towards the Republican. 'PANADOL? WHERE SHOW ME?' She rounded on Richard, cutting off all escapes for the man.
Ryan's expression changed from escalated worry to mischievous as he grinned at Richard from behind Marian's back. His expression said it all - your turn to deal with her.
We've woken a sleeping volcano, Nalan.
Tell me about it. I don't know how you put up with her for hours in this lab in the past. Eugh, get Hanky out of my face.
Nalan was scrunched up in a corner with the smaller white cat arching his back towards her. Easily though, she leapt up onto a cabinet handle and pounced of it to land behind Hanky. The cat roared in frustration, which coincided with Marian letting out a particularly loud growl at Richard.
Maybe you can tackle her to the ground, Ryan, not that I want Richard to be saved but it looks like he might need some saving.
YOU tackle her to the ground! Being run over by a carriage wouldn't be as suicidal as body-wrestling her. Tackle her to the ground. He laughed in her mind.
Ryan moved quickly to Dana and gently took her arm to lead her away from Marian and Richard, in case Richard turned Marian to Dana, or more likely turn Marian back to Ryan for that matter - which knowing Richard is something he could do.

Richard Mackenzies POV
Words in italics indicate Richard Mackenzie and Morpheusa communicating telepathically.
Richards head turned from left to right repeatedly as if he was watching a tennis match when he saw the conversation between Marian and Ryan.
Holy fuck. I didnt know that woman was OCD.
You surprise me with your astute observation, you really do. I would never guess she was so particular over neatness. RICHARD MACKENZIE! DO SOMETHING!
Im a person with rhetorical skills. Not someone who can magically stop a whale from thrashing around.
Ryan expects you to.
His jaw dropped slightly, but he closed it again when he realized that everyone in the room was looking at him. Dana the Whales Goddaughter, was giving him a better-you-than-me look , and Ryan looked as if it was HIS turn to say something.
Miss Karpy, truly, truly we did not expect you to wake up and see this mess. I swear, we were going to clean it up.
Morpheusa nodded, trying to substantiate her humans words and look sincere at the thought of her human cleaning up. It was rather hard to do so though, for Richard never cleared anything up. His study often looked as if a hurricane had stormed through it.
I dont know that shit now, Morpheusa.
It wasnt even my shit to begin with.
You see. We were concerned over your health. Ryan insisted on looking for aspirin for your head, and I must admit it was a very good idea. We would SO HATE to see you die over such a silly wound. Especially now. You cannot die at this era and this time. The world needs more people like you.
He waved the Panadol in front of the whale, and continued to talk. He wasnt sure what he was talking about, but it sounded good.
Jordans College have made a fantastic breakthrough in the study of astronomy. We have discovered a ninth planet.
The white tigress behind him was choking.
Oh, what Richard means is that
No, no. Actually
NO. Listen to me, he does
MORPHEUSA!
Richard! How could you be SAYING something like this
Morpheusa. Shut up. He ploughed ahead and ignored his daemons attempts to talk. The astronomy community cannot afford to operate under this veil of secrecy any longer. The amount of research which has been done in both colleges is IMMENSE I tell you.
He cleared his throat and refused to meet anyones eye, for fear of seeing his calm exterior façade crack with laughter.
We can NEVER let someone so prominent as you die. I mean, you already have that cochlea research to think of. And after that work for the Magisterium, you will have this to handle. Morpheusa would very much have liked to disappear from the room and drag her human with her before he caused more damage, but her few steps towards the door proved futile. Danas daemon was there, eying her with a beady eye.
Richard. Shut up. Now. Please just shut up.
You want me to say something. You want me to shut up. Morpheusa, stop being so fickle minded.
"Of course, there is the other fact that the check which I presented to you during dinner has disappeared, and we were looking for it. There is a considerable sum of money in that check, Miss Karpy, and I would be much displeased if it was lost."
His eyes took on a glint for a second.
"I would sincerely, very sincerely hate losing that much of money for no good reason. If it was an investment, well and good, but right now, it MIGHT be missing, and that much of money in the wrong hands WOULD be...bad. I might even revise my decision of financial issues in Oxford."
He smiled, to indicate that no offence was taken...so far.
"But what is most important is that you are healthy."
Morpheusa braced for what could be another explosion.
Re: Visit at St Sophia's College « Reply #36 on Sept 29, 2009, 3:59pm »
Ryan looked at Richard, half disbelief half entertained at his bravery. What things to say to a thundering angered beast. It was like pouring alcohol into an already burning inferno - but with a smile.
He looked at Marian in alarm to see her reaction. Her face was scrunched up and it was getting redder and redder, even purple. Her shoulders were tightened and her fists were clamped. Very much like a balloon being blown to its fullest but someone still injecting gas into it.
The young scholar saw her hands reach behind her on the bench top, gropping for something to whack or throw at Richard. His heart dropped when she saw her hands close around a steel retort stand. Ryan tried to catch Richard's eye, warning him if he does not shut up, he'd have a nasty concussion to his head.
Tell him to stop! Nalan, he needs to shut up!
Look, Morpheusa is already trying, so what can we do?
Ryan felt Nalan's reluctance to help. One less Republican, sounds like a good deal to her. But then again, Richard was a very important contact. They were finding out alot of information from him. Yet, Richard is kind of annoying, and powerful - too powerful for his own good.
Ryan understood Nalan's feelings, but this was just a silly way to get concussed. Not like this. But it was also his underlying personality that was acting up. There wasn't much time to think about it.
As Nalan continued pondering whether her human should help Richard or not, Ryan left Dana's side and sprinted towards his friend. There was no time to waste! He jumped over a stool and slide over a bench to reach Richard faster. Just as he saw the retort stand and Marian's hands come in view, he headbutted Richard on the side and they both fell crashing to the ground out of harms way.
Nalan jumped onto the bench, fur on end at her worry over Ryan.
Meanwhile, Marian had grabbed the retort stand, holding it lightly in her right hand. Her arms moved to place the stand on the bench to her right just as Ryan whammed into Richard. Her angry frown turned into raised eyebrows.
'What?' she said, looking at the two men on the ground, then at Ryan's gaze at the retort stand in her hand. 'Oh! You thought I was going to crack open Richard's head with this.' She laughed. 'Don't be silly, I was just moving it back where it belonged. I throw things, but I don't hit people with retort stands!' She boomed at them and stood over the pair, hands to her hips. 'What's this money rubbish you were babbling about Richard? You dare threaten to withdraw money from St Sophia's when you both WERE THE ONE WHO MESSED UP MY LAB?? OUTRAGES! I SHOULD BE THE ONE MAKING THREATS!'

Richard Mackenzie's POV
Words in italics indicate Richard Mackenzie and Morpheusa communicating telepathically.
Richard Mackenzie, as expected, did not see the retort stand until it was slightly too late. His hands instinctively reached for the gun behind his back, berating Morpheusa mentally all the same.
FUCK YOU MORPHEUSA! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO WATCH MY BACK!
How do you expect me to WATCH YOUR BACK when you shoot your mouth in all directions? Your big head was blocking my view anyway.
She was slightly enjoying how things were turning out. Maybe this woman would be able to knock some sense into her human. The retort stand didn't look too dangerous, in her learned opinion, and she would allow her human to get one hit on the head before leaping forward and taking care of the mess.
Frankly, the pain in her head after the blow would be worth it. And her human wasn't stupid enough to stand in the way of the apparatus. He was probably conscious enough to duck away. The blow would only glance off his head (preferably) or his shoulder.
Ryan crashed into him with something more than a considerable amount of force and her human was suddenly on top of her. The white tigress leapt back immediately, causing the both of them to topple on the floor. Richard landed right in front of her and he was immediately trying to untangle himself. The beached whale and the apparatus was forgotten for the moment as the daemon struggled not to laugh out loud.
Serves you right for all that nonsense, really you should -
Her thoughts were interrupted with Marian Karpy's shriek and for a brief second, a murderous, TRULY murderous glint shot through his eyes. Murderous enough for Morpheusa to take a step back and calm him down, murderous enough for her to know he would kill if necessary, murderous enough for her to know that he was level headed AND murderous at the same time.
Not a good combination for Marian Karpy, but an excellent combination for Richard Mackenzie.
Calm down, calm down. We still need her for nuclear energy. Just calm down. Killing her won't solve anything. Use your head.
She leant forward and quite unexpectedly licked his face. Nothing affectionate about THAT, all she wanted to do was hide the look just a little while longer.
Don't be stupid. Don't blow the best lead we have right now.
Her human stood up and she was relieved to see that he had a half smile on his face. A half smile, and a tone of voice which felt somewhere between mockery and sincerity.
"Miss Karpy, I am not issuing any threats over money. The fact is the check which I contributed over dinner is missing. It contains a large amount of money, and if it falls into the wrong hands, someone could wreck serious catastrophe with it. We will keep your laboratory neat and tidy once we are done, but right now, the check is absolutely important."
"So, with permission, I would like to continue searching your laboratory." Richard smiled again, but his eyes betrayed the fact that he WOULD search the laboratory, regardless.
For it was a very convenient alibi to read through her research to search for his missing check.
And with an eager goddaughter to help him, what could possibly be monotonous about that?
Re: Visit at St Sophia's College « Reply #38 on Oct 6, 2009, 2:49pm »
Ryan uttered a small 'omph' as he landed on the ground with Richard. His knee had slammed onto the ground and he was sure there would be some swelling there for days to come. For a brief moment, both scrambled to untangle themselves from each other. And as they did so, Ryan caught the look on Richard's face. It shocked Ryan, to see the murderous glint in his friend's eyes. He recognised the look and he recognised it in a killer he knows - Edward Branson. (And perhaps in himself, but it was not usual practise to look in a mirror before one commits murder.)
The undercover observed how Morpheusa came to lick Richard's face - something not characteristic of the white tigress. Ryan stood up and patted his pants, his mind running through what he had saw.
That was odd. Too odd.
Nalan jumped down from the bench and stood beside her human, looking up at Marian and ready to attack to defend Ryan.
Keep an eye out for Richard, will ya Nalan?
Good, now you know he is more than he appears to be. My senses are on him all the time Ryan, don't worry.
Ryan gazed mildly at Richard as he too stood up and continued his words with Marian.
Search the lab he says? Ryan had already had a brief look at the lab on his search for Panadol and while Richard had been charming Dana. The piece of paper he found was still safely in his inside coat pocket. Perhaps this will be a good opportunity for him to look around again.
But why would Richard want to search the lab as well?
'The cheque,' Marian exlaimed, face red. She fumbled in her pockets.
'It's gone. But why the heck would you think it is somewhere in my lab? On my lab tables? When clearly, it must have dropped along the way from the dinner hall, in the corridor or outside my lab. I have not been near any other parts of my lab but that corner.' She pointed to the bench, no doubt some screws on it need to be checked for safety measures. 'It would not be in my lab Richard. I suggest we re-trace our footsteps.'
She paused for a while.
'On second thoughts, don't worry about cleaning my lab. All of you have already made enough mess as it is. Dana would help me tidy it up.'
Ryan turned his eyes at Dana and saw that her face has dropped.
ooc: i thought about it, and as i was typing, i noticed a flaw in Richard's reasoning on where the cheque was. i'll just keep Ryan out of this and see what Richard says

Richard Mackenzie's POV
Words in italics indicate Richard Mackenzie and Morpheusa communicating telepathically.
Morpheusa backed away and sat down, eyeing her human warily. He was as volatile as lithium on water now, and the slightest spark could set him off.
"Ladies first then." He pulled the door open courteously for the beached whale to pass through before winking at Ryan.
"I finally found someone who's fatter than Morpheusa," he mouthed at his friend behind her back so that Marian Karpy would not notice and grinned.
His daemon gritted her teeth and swallowed it. Better not risk anything which might set him off again, especially as his hand, around the woman's shoulders now, could easily travel towards her neck and strangle her.
The aforementioned subject turned suddenly to face the laboratory and Richard shut his mouth immediately.
NOW you've done it.
Who? Me? For telling the truth? Morpheusa, I was complimenting you on the fact that you were not as fat as this tub of lard!
The man could literally feel the tension mounting in the laboratory now, and for the first time, wondered who was more hormonally imbalanced.
His daemon, or the woman.
Morpheusa turned to continue looking at the beached whale, swallowing snappy retort number two.
Unruffled that she was now the centre of attention, the woman turned back and hurried towards the back of her laboratory again.
"Just a minute my dears. The mess you made of my laboratory. I need to make sure some of my papers are still intact just the way they are. Why don't you go ahead and - "
"Wouldn't even DREAM of it Miss Karpy. A gentleman always waits for the lady."
"Such a kind and sweet man!" The whale was beaming now. "You see that's what I ALWAYS look for in a prospective suitor."
Morpheusa thought she had broke three of her ribs trying not to laugh.
PROSPECTIVE FUCKING SUITOR?
I thought that was what you always yearned for. A woman on your bed every night. Now, I wouldn't even stop you from doing it.
Oh you would wish you did. You will have Hanky down below.
Which shut her up immediately.
Wonder what's so important about that paper. Could have nuclear written all over it. Might be useful for us.
Thinking it was safe to venture in, his daemon shook her head.
Could be a marriage certificate for you to sign.
He kicked her and she allowed her side to absorb the kick, glad that her human was alright again. Her head leaned against his hip and he placed a hand on it.
"It might be useless doodles to anyone else, the paper's only got numbers and jargon on it, but they are my latest calculations and could be the key to an important element of my experiments."
"I dunno. Haven't seen it," answered Richard, wishing that he HAD seen it, and that it was right in his pocket. He would have sacrificed a hundred checks for it!
"Maybe Ryan has. Have you seen it, Ryan? How about you, the lovely Miss Dana? Have you seen it?"

Ryan moved towards the door, grinning at Richard at his comment on Morpheusa.
'I still don't think you're fat,' he mouthed to the white tigress when Richard turned his back.
He followed behind the group, Nalan following Ryan.
'I do wholeheartedly agree with you, Miss Karpy,' the young scholar added after Marian, his face serious and calm. 'Richard Mackenzie IS a prospective suitor. I don't just say this anyone Miss Karpy, but because you are a very very close and important friend of mine, I must say you really mustn't let this golden chance pass through your fingers.'
Ryan paused, smiling evily at Richard.
'Go for it, Marian. Richard Mackenzie is immensly and utterly single.'
Nalan's tail flicked in delight. Now that was something she would not mind seeing. But she raised her eyebrows at Morpheusa as a gesture for them to excuse Ryan.
'Oh I think I just might, Mr Whitman. I just might,' Marian replied sweetly, almost sickeningly sweetly, and planted a juicy kiss on Richard's cheeks. Ryan noted how Dana's face grew red.
He found himself jumping sideways as Marian re-entered the lab.
'An important element?' Ryan repeated. His interest skyrocketted, but he masked it. 'Boy, I think I might consider switching my studies to St Sophia's. You're making an aweful lot of discoveries.'
'Yeah, that will be perfect!' Nalan replied sheepishly. 'I've always wanted a woman for a human.'
Ryan shook his head at Richard. 'No haven't seen it. What does it look like? Perhaps we can help?' Perhaps a chance to determine the extent their nuclear experiments have developed.
'Oh, that would be nice, but it's really just a silly folder,' Marian said, wadding back into the lab. Ryan was suddenly reminded of a pig cross duck, and he frowned at this. 'Just wait here my dears, I shall be right back. Dana honey, come with me please.'
The young woman and stumbled after her god-mother, leaving Ryan and Richard alone momentarily at the door.
Nalan trotted after Dana for a bit and sat a few metres from Ryan, looking into the room at the two ladies. His ears erect in friendly concern that Marian finds whatever she was looking for.
He was not worried, for now that he knew St Sophia's were into nuclear energy, it would not be hard for Ryan to make an excuse to investigate. Ryan was known to be a close academic partner of the astronomy department and close enough to 'inquire' about other projects without arousing too much suspicion.
Ryan turned his head at Richard, leaning against a cabinet.
'Busy night eh?' It must be close to midnight by that time. He looked at his wristwatch. 'Supose you're still hoping to catch some girls wondering out of their beds at this time? Marian is quite the catch.'

Richard Mackenzie's POV
Words in italics indicate Richard Mackenzie and Morpheusa communicating telepathically.
Morpheusa grinned back. Marian Karpy courting Richard Mackenzie. A sight to behold indeed.
Hanky and Morpheusa sitting on a tree. F-U-C-K-I-N-G.
He was interrupted with the kiss on his cheek, and because he still needed to use the woman for nuclear information, he patted her back gently, wincing at Dana, who was positively beetroot by now. Her god mother on the other hand, beamed.
"I hope you can get someone as gentlemanly as Richard as your prospective suitor, my dear Dana."
"I am sure she might." He winked at her, and his daemon took a few steps back hastily as Hanky bounded towards her. He curled himself around her large body, going up, down and around the white tigress while she stood stock still and closed her eyes, ignoring the nauseating perfume which was drifting towards her nose.
Courtship with Marian eh?
Richard looked at the woman searching for the obscure file and grinned wider as Dana edged closer to him, whispering things which her godmother would most likely explode of jealousy upon hearing.
"No. No. Wait till Miss Karpy is away first before you suggest anything, Dana," he whispered at her ear.
"Miss Karpy. I think you might want to search a bit further in instead of skirting around the edge of your laboratory. Ryan might have both ransacked it in there. Why don't you start over there?"
She pointed at an obscure dark corner in the furthest part of the lab.
"Cause Richard and I looked through the front of your lab. And we saw no paper with those figures lying around. I should know, I have seen it before."
The beached whale glared at Ryan before laughing. "Oh you sillies you sillies. The first aid box is in front of the laboratory! Why did you take the trouble to look through the inner parts of my laboratory? Did you accidentally take the paper, Ryan?"
Richard choked at Ryan's words. Not exactly what he wanted Dana to hear when he needed to pump her for nuclear information tonight.
"Oh yes, Miss Karpy IS a catch. A real good one." He patted Dana's hand.
"Not the older one, the younger one," he whispered as she practically melted beside him.
Morpheusa frowned. The perfumed cat refused to let go, and the girl's monkey daemon was approaching the white tigress with something not akin to stealth. Unless she did something, both daemons would battle it out over -
HER.
I am now the centre of attention of two daemons. Richard, MAKE UP YOUR MIND!

Nalan stared with a pained expresson on her face as she watched Hanky show her affection towards Morpheusa.
Ouch. I feel sorry for the tiger. Though on some level, I am happy because I'm not her at the moment.
What the heck does Marian put on Hanky? It must be illegal, the stuff she puts on him. I can hardly breath.
Ryan looked up at Marian as she addressed him.
'Oh yes, I know a first aid box was at the front. But the contents were fairly depleted. So I thought there might have been another near the back. Haven't seen those papers you're looking for Marian, or the folder you mentioned before.'
Ryan mind's travelled to the piece of paper in his pocket. He didn't take that out of a folder. Chances were she would not notice. It was a torn piece of paper anyway, a scrap or note Marian had slipped into her drawer.
The young scholar watched amused as the ladies's daemons showed friction.
This will be good, Nalan.
Yeah, let the Republican clown have his ego inflatted. Sit out of this Ryan.
Wish I had some popcorn.
Ryan moved his way to the bench that they had carried Marian with and sat down, elbows on his knees, to watch the scene unfold. Nalan trotted to sit beside Ryan, looking bored.
ooc: Ryan's sitting out because I am not sure what's going on and where this is heading.

Richard Mackenzie's POV
Words in italics indicate Richard Mackenzie and Morpheusa communicating telepathically.
Oh calm down. Let the both of them fight over you. It is actually rather flattering you know that? To know that you are worth fighting for. Which means I am worth fighting for. See? I am NOT the idiot you think I am.
Dana was now looking expectantly at him, as if HE was going to sort things out, even Marian's back had stiffened, but she continued to rifle through the papers, muttering on the folder.
Richard grinned and sat beside Ryan, with Dana still dangling beside him,
"This will be good," he muttered towards his friend.
The monkey and the cat were now eyeing each other darkly, daring the other to make a move. Morpheusa stepped back slowly and glared at her human, who was now leaning forward with a look not unlike the Romans when they chanted "KILL! KILL! KILL!" in the Colosseum filled with gladiators.
The monkey faltered, chancing half a look at Dana, as if seeking her permission to attack the daemon of her senior, and in her eyes, he could see alarm.
He turned, and Hanky was already on top of him, snarling. Marian was shrieking and shouting at her goddaughter to stop it, and Dana was cheering her daemon on, and -
I wonder if the cat's perfumes would suffocate the monkey, or whether the cat's weight would kill the monkey first.
RICHARD WHAT YOU SHOULD BE WONDERING NOW IS HOW TO STOP THE FIGHT!
She shot him another smouldering look, and he gave her a Look which told her to stop interfering and enjoy it. Dana was enjoying it, and Marian was stopped. What fun!
Which naturally meant her leaping into the fray, separating both daemons with her large body, stepping on Hanky's tail to prevent him from running towards the monkey, while she took the monkey by the scruff of his neck and throwing him over to Dana.
And in the middle of all this ruckus, the voice of another scholar rang out.
"Miss Karpy! What on earth is going on here?!"
Everyone looked up. The white tigress immediately released the cat and he ran towards Marian, washing himself in the process and shooting Morpheusa a look. The monkey crept towards his human and began chattering on her shoulder. Marian rushed towards Morpheusa, shouting out her thanks on stopping the fight, and she would have broken the MAJOR taboo of openly flatteringly touching another person's daemon when Richard stood up and cleared his throat. His charisma and aura burnt through, halting everyone.
"Morpheusa, come here. I am SO sorry for this mess, Miss Karpy, er...Miss Karpy, and Miss Packer but we must be leaving. I forgot that I have to turn in early tonight. Big meeting tomorrow."
What he wanted to do was leave before things got any worse. He did NOT want to be forcefully evicted from St Sophia's. Marian still had a lot of use for him.
FINALLY SOMEONE is seeing sense.
"If someone sees the missing check, please do send it back and I will reissue a new one for St Sophia's."
His daemon rubbed her head against his side thankfully.
"Good night."
He left like how he had entered. In a storm of movement. Larger than life as he sidestepped the woman in the entrance with Morpheusa squeezing through.
"Best leave before this gets any worse," hissed Morpheusa at Nalan softly so that only the both of them could hear.
And the both of them left, bickering into the night.
